RABAT, March 10, 2010 (AFP) - At least 10 people have been killed in storms that have triggered flooding and landsides in Morocco, local officials and media reports said.

Seven people were drowned Tuesday after a river flash-flooded a village in the Ksiba district, 250 kilometres (150 miles) southeast of Rabat, a local official told AFP.

Six other people were injured after two adobe houses were washed away by the flood waters, the official added.   Strong winds and heavy rain killed another three people on Tuesday in the town of Taza in the northeast, and Midelt in central Morocco, the MAP news agency reported.

The heavy rains falling across Morocco over the last few weeks have damaged or destroyed buildings, washed away bridges, ruined crops and caused widespread power failures.   The flooding has also left hundreds of families homeless.   Last month the storms caused the death of at least 10 people.
