If you’re travelling on a budget, then you’re in luck! There are lots free things to see and do on every holiday. Forget spending your entire travel budget on overpriced tourist attractions, pricey admission tickets and expensive events. If you do a little research before your trip, you will see that every area has plenty to offer, without huge costs.  Here are some of our favourite free things to do on holidays.

Hiking

If the destination has a beautiful mountainous landscape,  you can be sure that there is trail you can follow. Whether you are visiting South America or South East Asia there are many hikes to enjoy.

Festivals

Most destinations offer some festivals and fairs. Depending on where you are, you can find festivals based around music, art, food or other outdoor activities.

Though some festivals may have a hefty price tag, you would be surprised by how many festivals are free, such as the Lantern Festival in Taiwan.  All it takes to discover these events is some research.

Beaches

Find a nearby beach for some fun and relaxation. Couples, families and friends can all enjoy the beach. Kids will love playing in the sand and building sand castles. Adults can take a romantic stroll along the shore, and if the water is safe, everyone can enjoy a swim in the sea.

Free museums

Wherever you are travelling , there is a history, a story, and interesting things to learn.  You will be surprised by how many museums around the world are free to visit.  In some countries,  even well-known museums offer days and times where you are granted free entry.

Six centuries’ worth of art is available at Museo Soumaya, Mexico City without an entrance fee.

Parks

National and State parks have been preserved and constructed simply for your enjoyment. For kids, it’s a good opportunity to teach them about nature, wildlife, and the environment with a first-hand experience. National and State parks have plenty of activities for everyone including cycling, hiking, fishing, swimming, and camping.

Farmers Markets

Visiting a Farmer’s Market is not only an enjoyable experience, but it can help you to get a flavour of the destination.  You can see the unique fruits, vegetables,  spices and other products from the area.

Not only is there free access to these markets but most vendors offer free samples of their wines, chocolates, coffee and more.  You are in for a treat!
